Chub Ta Trav

This Life Cambodia began the Lower Secondary School Development program (LSSDP) with Chub Ta Trav Lower Secondary School in the school year 2010-2011. This was also the first year that Chub Ta Trav Lower Secondary School started conducting classes.

After consulting with the Provincial Education and District Education offices, the LSSDP found that no one in Chub Ta Trav Commune had graduated from Grade 12. The first primary school in the commune was only constructed in 2002, by actress Angelina Jolie after she visited the commune.
This Life Cambodia conducted Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRAs)with the commune chief, village chief, parent representatives, teachers and students after it was decided to include this school in the LSSDP Program.

The findings in Chub Ta Trav were similar to the findings at the first school This Life Cambodia worked with. The first need recognised by the school was the need for school materials; classroom decorations, teaching materials and textbooks for students. The second need identified was the need for improved sanitation at the school. The pump well at the school was broken, so the PRA identified the need to fix it, with the community raising the funds to do so.

The third priority found by the PRA was that the school did not have a garden and it was determined that the solution to this issue would be to level the school land.

This Life Cambodia partnered with Saga Charitable Trust and Chub Ta Trav Communities to fix the old pump well, level the school land in front of the school and also to complete half of a 300 metre school fence made of concrete poles and wires.
